Journeys

Poetic Journeys is a collaboration between the Creative Writing Program and the Design Center at UConn. Inspired by New York MTA’s Poetry in Motion, it features poems by students and faculty on placards in buses and around campus.

I worked specifically on a poem titled "Before I Kill Myself." The text was high-anxiety, chaotic, and cluttered. My design solution matched this tone through aggressive spacing, font choices, and repetition.

I animated the text to pop up like intrusive thoughts that quickly fill the screen. This creates a sense of pressure that matches the chaotic tone of the writing. The animation ends with the phrase "I WILL CLEAN MY ROOM" appearing word by word. I added a small shake effect to the letters to show the nervous energy of the poem without being too much for sensitive viewers.
