Journeys

Poetic Journeys is a collaboration between the Creative Writing Program and the Design Center at UConn. Inspired by New York MTA’s Poetry in Motion, it features poems by students and faculty on placards in buses and around campus.

I worked specifically on a poem titled "Before I Kill Myself." The text was high-anxiety, chaotic, and cluttered. My design solution matched this tone through aggressive spacing, font choices, and repetition.

The project also required an animation component. I chose to have words pop up as individual, intrusive thoughts filling the screen. The interaction culminates in the phrase "I WILL CLEAN MY ROOM" appearing word-by-word with a subtle shake effect—conveying the tension of the poem without causing a negative reaction in the viewer.
